AMORAN Chairman Cites Infrastructure Development as Key Reason for Mobilising Members Ahead of 2027 Polls
ABEOKUTA – In a significant pre-election mobilisation drive, the Articulated Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), Ogun State Chapter, on Monday began a three-day statewide verification of its members' Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The exercise aims to galvanise the influential transport sector bloc for full participation in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
The initiative kicked off at the association’s secretariat in Adatan, Abeokuta, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd of members from the Ogun East Senatorial District, who queued to confirm their voting credentials.
Addressing the gathering, the State Chairman, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, framed the event as a dual mission: affirming their civic responsibility and acknowledging the performance of current leaders. He urged members to remain committed to the democratic process.
“We are not just checking cards; we are consolidating our voice as a critical economic bloc,” stated Otunba Sokoya. “This verification is the first step to ensuring that, come 2027, we are ready to vote wisely and protect our interests as key contributors to the social and financial fabric of Nigeria.”
In a notable endorsement, the Chairman linked the association’s political engagement to tangible governance, specifically praising infrastructure projects beneficial to transporters.
“We are responsible citizens, and we recognise good work. Our Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has done a lot for infrastructure development, especially the road network which is vital to our operations. At the federal level, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working seriously to make every road motorable. We believe in them and their vision, and we are ready to show our support through our votes when the time comes,” Sokoya declared.
The chairman emphasised that the programme was a strategic move to demonstrate the association’s organisation and political awareness to both the public and the government.
The verification drive is scheduled to continue across the state’s senatorial districts. Following the opening session for Ogun East on Monday, the exercise will move to Ogun Central on Tuesday, January 6, and conclude in Ogun West on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Political analysts suggest that the organised mobilisation of AMORAN’s vast membership, coupled with its leadership’s stated support for incumbents based on infrastructure delivery, could signal a potent and influential voting bloc in the state’s future electoral landscape.
