Ogun State Governor and Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the resounding victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday's governorship election in Kogi State as the affirmation of the confidence Nigerians have in the ability of the ruling party to extricate Nigeria from the current economic woes. The APC governorship candidate, Usman Ododo emerged winner of the Kogi governorship election with 446,237 votes to beat Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who polled 259,052 votes to come second. The governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, has dismissed the application filled by the counsel to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gordy Uche, SAN,  seeking for stand down after witnesses presented damning evidences against petitioners. Four witnesses, Oyegunle Suleiman, from Sagamu,  Mr Ifetayo Ifede, from Ikenne and Adelani Yemi, from Abeokuta North, including an official of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Mr Omotilewa,  had appeared before the panel to give evidences backed up by documents against PDP, alleging electoral infraction, ranging from manipulation, disruption.of electoral process, as well as inducement through the preloaded ATM cards with inscription of Ladi Adebutu's late mother. The second respondent at the Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal, Governor Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday closed his defence of the petition filed against his reelection by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ladi Adebutu. Mr Abiodun in his defence accused Mr Adebutu of engaging in vote buying which according to him led to “willful disruption” of election by suspected thugs. The governor, who opened his defence on Friday, called six witnesses, including an official of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and a staff of Zenith Bank, voters and party agents. Mr Abiodun also tendered documents including his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, the report of the production of 200,000 units of top-up ATM cards by Mr Adebutu, a letter of authority from the petitioner to open a Zenith Bank account from which the top-up cards were preloaded with N10,000 each and a paper showing the sample of the preloaded cards. The Ogun State Chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has said its former Chairman, Mr Oginni Olaposi Sunday remained expelled from the party. The party, also, maintained that the party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains one of the major pillars of the party. The 12th National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress is currently ongoing at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Mr Rasaq Salinsile, has declined the appointment given to him by the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, citing personal reasons. Salinsile had led the faction of Osun APC loyal to the ex-governor Rauf Aregbesola, and mounted a fierce opposition to ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola, running on the platform of APC, from getting a second term in office in July 16, 2022 governorship poll, at the peak of the intra-party crises that ravaged the APC.
