Equity Without Fairness Is Not Balance: Why Imasayi Ward Deserves the Next Representation in Yewa North Isokan State Constituency I
To:
His Excellency, Dapo Abiodun, CON
Governor, Ogun State
The Leadership of the All Progressives Congress, Ogun State Chapter
Your Excellency and Distinguished Leaders,
We write with utmost respect and a strong sense of civic responsibility regarding the ongoing conversations about rotational representation in Yewa North Isokan State Constituency I.
Recent appeals have rightly raised the question of equity among the zones within the constituency. Yet it is important to state clearly that equity without fairness cannot produce balance. True equity requires that attention be given not only to zones but also to the wards within those zones that have consistently been left out of representation.
Yewa North Isokan State Constituency I is made up of seven wards: Idofoi, Ayetoro Ward I, Ayetoro Ward II, Sunwa, Joga/Ibooro, Imasayi, and Ibeshe. Over the course of democratic governance since 1999, several of these wards have had the opportunity to produce representatives at the Ogun State House of Assembly. Unfortunately, one ward has remained completely excluded from this privilege. That ward is Imasayi.
Since the beginning of the Fourth Republic, representation has moved among a number of wards within the constituency. Joga/Ibooro produced the first representative between 1999 and 2003. Ibeshe followed from 2003 to 2011. Ayetoro Ward I held the seat between 2011 and 2019, while Ibeshe again assumed representation from 2019 to the present.
A careful review of this history reveals that while different wards have had the opportunity to serve, Imasayi Ward has never produced a representative for the constituency. This reality stands in contrast to the spirit of fairness that should guide democratic participation.
Imasayi has remained loyal to the party and supportive of every candidate that emerged from other wards. The people of the ward have worked for the progress of the constituency and the success of the party during every election cycle. Their patience and loyalty deserve recognition.
The principle of rotation should not stop at the level of zones. When the same wards repeatedly benefit from representation while others are permanently sidelined, the intention of equitable power sharing is weakened.
Imasayi Ward is not asking for political charity. The ward seeks only the opportunity to participate in leadership like others before it. Allowing Imasayi to present the next representative will correct a long-standing imbalance and strengthen unity within the constituency.
We also wish to commend Your Excellency for your visible commitment to development across Ogun State. The construction of the Imasayi–Ayetoro road has brought renewed economic and social connection to the area. That project stands as a lasting symbol of responsive leadership and remains deeply appreciated by the people of Imasayi and the wider Yewa North community.
As preparations begin toward the 2027 general elections, we respectfully appeal to the leadership of the party to consider the broader meaning of fairness. If equity is the goal, then fairness must guide the decision.
Granting Imasayi Ward the opportunity to present the next candidate for Yewa North Isokan State Constituency I will correct a historical omission, reward loyalty, and strengthen unity within the party and the constituency.
Among those prepared to serve is a respected son of the ward, Prince Oluwafemi Akinlawon. His roots in Imasayi, his commitment to the people, and his readiness to contribute meaningfully to legislative development make him a credible option for consideration.
History often judges leadership not only by development projects but also by the fairness of political inclusion. This moment provides an opportunity to demonstrate that fairness remains a guiding principle in the politics of Ogun State.
We trust in your wisdom and leadership to ensure that justice, fairness, and balance prevail in the interest of the entire constituency.
Signed
Orebiyi Adewale (Imasayi Youth Forum)
Kusoro Jeremiah (Imasayi Students Council)
