Oyo workers protest, lock state Secretariat, demand palliatives, others

The Oyo State workers have, on Monday, locked the state secretariat in Ibadan to demand palliatives, upward review of pension allowances and payment of salary deduction.

Participating in the protest are workers and pensioners under the banners of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and their affiliates.

Led by their union leaders, the workers are also demanding payment of leave bonuses, payment of gratuities to retirees who have stagnated since the year 2021and release of promotion letters for the Years 2021 and 2022.

No government official is yet to address the protesting workers at of time of filling this report.

Tinubu approves new salary structure for health workers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for Health Professionals in the Federal Public Service. The new salary structure takes effect from the 1st of June, 2023. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, conveyed this in a circular dated 26th July 2023, which was sighted by Nigerian Tribune on Thursday in Abuja. Head of Information, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Mr Emmanuel Njoku, confirmed to Nigerian Tribune that the circular emanated from the Commission. Nta noted that the approval by the President was consequent upon the review of the Health Sector Salary Structures by the Commission. Ogun State, Nigeria – August 2025 – In a recent announcement from the Ogun State Government, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has approved the appointment of Basorun Adebayo Awosanya of Sagamu Local Government as a Consultant to the Governor.
